Overturned Timber Truck Causes Chaos on the 1-516
Tim’s Towing responded to a call from the Savannah Police Department who needed urgent help from their heavy recovery team. Bringing everyone’s Final Destination nightmares to life, a logging truck had hit a guard rail and flipped over on the 1-516 westbound, spilling wood debris and logs all over the highway. This caused the highway to be shut down for six hours.
This heavy recovery job required a heavy duty team. Six heavy recovery team members, one 60 ton rotator, two Landoll’s, one recovery trailer, and a fork lift left the Tim’s Towing lot for the scene of the accident. The truck was heavily damaged as it had landed on the guard rail. Tim’s Towing heavy recovery team brought out their inner lumberjacks and used a chainsaw to cut some logs in order to be able to upright the truck and trailer. Tim’s Towing heavy recovery team used their 60 ton rotator to pick up the truck and trailer and roll them over in unison. Both truck and trailer were towed away using the 60 ton rotator while a log loader was used to recover the logs.
Going above and beyond their jobs, the Tim’s Towing heavy recovery team helped redirect traffic and clear the woof debris that was now covering the 1-516. Thank you to the Tim’s Towing heavy recovery team and the Savannah Police Department for keeping everyone safe during the highway shut down.
Details of Heavy Recovery Effort Moves Timbers
A logging truck was driving westbound on the I-516 when it lost control near the Gwinnette Street exit ramp. The truck hit a guardrail and flipped over. Logs and wood debris were scattered in the middle of the highway and the highway was shut down by the Savannah Police Department. Tim’s Towing received a phone call from the Savannah Police Department within minutes of the accident. Tim’s Towing dispatched 6 heavy recovery team members, one 60 ton rotator, two Landolls, one recovery trailer, and one fork lift.
Tim’s Towing heavy recovery team arrived to the scene of the accident. The Savannah Police Department redirected traffic to the I-16 while Tim’s Towing heavy recovery team went to work on the truck and trailer. After assessment, the heavy recovery team noted that the trailer was not too damaged. However, the truck received the brunt of the impact as it landed on top of the guard rail. Tim’s Towing heavy recovery team decided that the safest plan of action was to upright both truck and trailer at the same time.
Tim’s Towing heavy recovery team used chainsaws in order to clear some logs in order to prepare the trailer to be flipped. Tim’s Towing heavy recovery team then used the 60 ton rotator to flip both truck and trailer over in unision. Tim’s Towing heavy recovery team also used the 60 ton rotator to tow both truck and trailer as a single unit.
While the original plan was to load the logs on the Landolls, the logging truck company brought in a log loader and proceeded to clear the logs off the highway. Tim’s Towing heavy recovery team aided in clearing the scene of wood debris which would have been a hazard to motorists.
