Semi Towing Uses 50-Ton Wrecker to Upright Trailer with Paper Rolls

The devil is in the details when navigating a tractor-trailer and the fifth wheel loaded with paper products and needed semi towing help. A fifth wheel loaded with 56,000 pounds of paper rolls lost its balance and ended up on its side at a distribution center near Savannah Georgia last Thursday, April 30th.

Tim’s Towing of Savannah received the call late Thursday afternoon asking for help to upright the fifth wheel loaded with paper rolls. Tim’s Towing sent a 50-ton wrecker to the rescue to upright the overturned fifth wheel. It took our elite team just a little over an hour to handle the job, upright the trailer, redistribute the load of paper rolls, and then tow it away to an awaiting a semi cab. Thanks to the whole team at Tim’s Towing.

Details of Semi Towing Effort of Trailer with Paper Rolls

The fifth-wheel trailer loaded with over 56,000 pounds of paper rolls overturned at a distribution center near Savannah Georgia late Thursday night. Tim’s Towing received the call for help and they promptly dispatched their semi towing team to the rescue. The semi towing team left the Tim’s Towing headquarters on Gamble Road nearby highways I-17, I-80, I-516, and I-16. The semi towing team took a right going East down Highway 17 and drove to the intersection of Highway 516 and Highway 80. The semi towing team took the exit ramp south on highway 516 and drove several miles to just past the Veterans Parkway exit and continued down highway 516 due Southeast for several miles through the Hunter Army Air Field. 

The semi towing team drove past White Bluff Road. The semi towing team continued down E Derenne Avenue over Waters Avenue and then turned South onto the Harry S Truman Parkway. The semi towing team continued South past Bacon Park Area / Sandfly and exited the highway just the Walmart Supercenter. They exited the highway and took a left down Cresthill and continued past the highway onto Skidaway Road near the Tequila’s Town Mexican Restaurant Sandfly. 

 Tim’s Towing lost no time in quickly arriving on site and got to work disconnecting from the tractor-trailer that was detached. The Semi Towing Team arrived at their destination at the paper products distribution center and got to work recovering the rolled over fifth-wheel trailer.

The semi towing team opened the door to the 50-ton tow truck. They exited the vehicle. The semi towing team walked alongside the vehicle and assessed the situation. The semi towing team noticed how the fifth wheel was laying on the ground. The semi towing team discussed the best strategy to recover the overturned trailer. They decided to use winches and attach towing cables to the front and rear of the trailer to right side of the trailer. 

The semi towing team took the straps, walked over to the trailer and attached the straps onto the front of the trailer frame. The semi towing team took the cables and the straps and attached them to the rear of the trailer frame. The semi towing team then walked back to their powered winches and in unison began to pull the trailer upright. 

The trailer moved one foot off the ground. The trailer moved two feet off the ground. The trailer moved all the way to a vertical position rightsize up. The semi towing team waited to get the trailer under control and then carefully the semi towing team set the trailer onto the ground. 

The semi towing team walked over to the front of the trailer and detached the towing cables and the towing straps. They then walked to the rear of the trailer and detached the cables and the straps. The semi towing team then backed a cab in and attached it to the trailer and then the cab drove away.
